The Colorectal Cancer Research Consortium (CCRC)
Group Leader: Professor Robyn Ward
Interest Area of Group:The main aim of the CCRC is to develop and test translational systems that can identify, integrate and disseminate important, clincial information about colorectal cancers.
Below are listed 3 projects that are currently being conducted by the CCRC:
Project 1: Strategic Research Partnership (STReP) with the Cancer Council NSW The Strategic Research Partnership between the Cancer Council NSW and the CCRC was established to develop conventions for the reporting of histopathological features of colorectal cancers that can be uniformly applied across pathology laboratories servicing our Area Health and across NSW. Using the examples of Mismatch Repair Deficiency (MMRD) testing, our secondary goal is to model the ways in which basic science can be translated into advances in clinical practice more...
Project 2: NSW Oncology Group for Colorectal Cancer - Minimum Dataset Harmonisation ProjectThe NSW Cancer Institute is currently collecting data on all cancer cases registered in NSW (The Clinical Cancer Registry). The NSW Oncology Group for Colorectal Cancer has created a list of twelve additional data items, which they deem to be important for the accurate reporting of colorectal cancers specifically. This project involves the collection of these additional data items from patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer within the South East Sydney and Illawarra Area Health.
Project 3: Patient Attitudes, Knowledge and Experiences Toward Cancer Pathology ReportsAccess to health information has become an increasingly accepted expectation on the part of patients and consumers. Within Australia patients now have the right to access their medical records, including their pathology reports. However, very little is known regarding patient’s knowledge of pathology reports and their experience and attitudes towards the information that it contains. As a first step in this process the CCRC have conducted a study using a questionnaire to gauge the attitudes and awareness of cancer patients towards their pathology reports. As part of this work, the CCRC have also established an informative website aimed at consumers, which contains relevant information regarding cancer pathology and pathology reporting in general more…
