| The UNSW Cancer Research Centre brings together an internationally recognised team of basic science and clinical researchers to address the problem of human cancer. The centre will be housed within the Lowy Cancer Research Centre, now being developed at UNSW. The goal of the centre will be to create innovative anti-cancer molecules and to integrate them into current clinical practice. This goal will be realised through the activities of two key groups:
The Molecular Innovations group will use their expertise in the biological and physical sciences to create novel molecular answers to the problem of human cancer.
The Integrated Cancer Research group will use their expertise in cancer biology and clinical medicine to bring new knowledge to the practical realities of cancer care.
A major strength of the Cancer Research Centre is its strong relationship with key research and clinical organisations. These include the Children’s Cancer Institute of Australia and the three major teaching hospitals of the adjacent Randwick Campus (Prince of Wales Hospital, Royal Hospital for Women, Sydney Children’s Hospital).
